Gardiner Construction Work

Gardiner Construction Work

I am aware of the ongoing early morning noise caused by the Gardiner construction project  in Liberty Village and agree that it is unacceptable.

While we know the Gardiner requires upgrading to ensure the safety of road users, I continue to advocate for new and promised investments in regional public transit serving Liberty Village and our downtown, alongside  congestion management in the neighbourhood.

We have confirmed with City staff that the loudest portion of the demolition, specifically the demolition of the deck, was completed earlier this week. Some demolition of steel girders is set to complete by June 20th, 2025, but this activity is less noisy than the deck demolition.

My team and I have been in touch with City staff and local residents to advocate for:

  • Consistency around start times with work beginning no earlier than 7am.
    • Staff have advised that  start time for noisy work aligns with best practices on other City projects, and reflects a balance between accelerating the delivery of this major work and minimizing disruption to the community.
    • Some neighbours have reported work beginning earlier than 7am.
      • Gardiner project team are using monitors to better determine whether any early noise could be linked to their work, but believe this is the result of Metrolinx work.
      • Please continue to report any early morning noise to 311, my office, and to Metrolinx directly at [email protected]
  • Improved community engagement, including:
    • Advocacy around options for targeted outreach by the project team to local buildings, including 65-85 East Liberty, 5 Hanna, and others
    • Updates to the mailing list for this project and website once every two weeks.
    • A representative from the Gardiner project team will be attending the Exhibition Place Community Liaison Meeting on Tuesday June 17th, 2025. More information  on this meeting can be found here: https://www.explace.on.ca/community-information/

Residents can find more information and receive dedicated email updates on the City’s website. The project team can be reached at [email protected].
