All 6 lanes of the Gardiner Expressway between Dufferin St and Strachan Ave will be reopening 18 months ahead of schedule in early November! This was made possible by strong collaboration between our City and provincial governments to speed up the original timelines that had construction finishing April 2027.
To complete the final work, a full closure of the Gardiner Expressway from Spadina Ave to Highway 427 is required. With the Blue Jays in the World Series, the closure will happen over two weekends to make sure people can get around the city.
Weekend Closures
Saturday, October 25, following the end of Game 2 of the Toronto Blue Jays World Series, the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from Spadina Avenue to Highway 427. Weather depending, three westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes will reopen by approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, October 27, in time for the morning rush hour.
Saturday, November 1 (depending on the Blue Jays’ schedule), the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from Spadina Avenue to Highway 427, and all six lanes will reopen by approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, November 3, in time for the morning rush hour.
Thank you to all the residents in Liberty Village who have accommodated overnight and 24/7 construction to help accelerate this important project.

What a spectacular journey the World Cup 2026 has been! Toronto truly shone on the world stage, from six thrilling matches, and the energy at Fan Festival, to our incredible community celebrations in every part of the downtown. And while the games may be done, there is still so much fun to be had in our downtown communities this summer.
Summer brings more people and activity to our downtown communities. With more people out and about, I’ve had many conversations about road safety and making sure we can all enjoy our neighbourhoods and get to where we need to go.
