Celebrate Toronto Island

Toronto Island is one of the largest parks in our city, and a beloved gem that we count on, especially in our downtown communities. I have decades of great memories taking the ferry for family picnics, a day at Centreville or to spend time on Ward's Island beach.

I love Toronto Island like so many Torontonians, and I'm excited to make it even better, all-year round for all of us with the Toronto Island Park Master Plan (TIMP).

The Toronto Island Park Master Plan (TIMP) is a long-term roadmap to create better opportunities to enjoy the park 365 days a year and protect its ecological importance. For over four years through extensive public engagement, stakeholder expertise and consultation with Indigenous communities, the City has worked to set the groundwork for future investment in this one-of-a-kind destination. Learn more at toronto.ca/islandmasterplan.

The Plan was approved at City Council on July 25! As part of it's approval, I also moved motions to:

  • engage City advisory committees in implementation of the Plan
  • develop a maintenance plan for the newly installed Rainbow Road at Hanlan’s Point
  • request a report back from staff on ferry ticketing options including Presto integration and access for low-income residents
  • look at all options to accelerate Ferry delivery and confirming construction and final design process through an update report
  • and advance protection of Hanlan’s Point Beach through a marine exclusion zone.

As we move into the implementation phase of the Plan, I want to hear from you about your experiences and priorities. Share below and stay in touch!

I look forward to celebrating Toronto Island with you - over the coming month and the coming years.
