New park-in-progress opens at 50 Queen’s Quay East
Today, we came together to open an important new green space for one of Toronto’s fastest growing neighbourhoods.
My priority has been to work together for a livable, affordable, and vibrant waterfront community. In a city like ours, we should have everything we need to thrive alongside growth: excellent parks and public spaces, vital community infrastructure, rapid public transit, and accessible affordable housing.
As we prepare for a long-term permanent park, it was so important for me that the community be able to enjoy this space, with this park-in-progress.
It is a green space to enjoy, with a dedicated off-leash area, open space and pickleball courts for recreation.
I am proud to have worked with City staff to get this waterfront park started and for the partnership with the developer Menkes that funded and built this phase with O2 Design.
The design competition process for the park’s future design kicks off next year, with the community.
It's exciting to be on the waterfront with new community centres at East Bayfront, and One Yonge, child care, new public art, and critical rental housing, including affordable, all opening and underway.
We'll continue this work together to build improved transit to the Waterfront East. All to ensure that as thousands of new neighbours join us on the eastern downtown waterfront, they have the services they need to create a vibrant, safe, and complete community.
