Plan to allow more retail and services in our neighbourhoods passes City Council
Neighbourhood retail, like corner stores and cafes, are often important community hubs. This week, City Council took an important step towards allowing them back into our neighbourhoods. This is an important step to build more complete communities, cut red tape for local businesses, and bring important services within easier reach of more residents.
I moved amendments at Council to protect existing neighbourhood retail in our communities. Spadina-Fort York will opt-in to the new framework and I encourage all my council colleagues to opt-in to the new policy. Our communities are already vibrant, mixed uses, spaces and it’s one of the features that make so many of our neighbourhoods great places to live.
