Toronto Caribbean Carnival is a staple of summer in our city. From July 30 - August 4, it brings its incredible celebration to Exhibition Place.
If you are looking to attend, you can find all the events here. The best way to get to every event is via TTC and Go Train. There will be extra subway service on Line 1 Yonge-University and Line 2 Bloor-Danforth. There will also be extra streetcar service on the 509 Harbourfront and the 511 Bathurst lines. You can also walk or cycle.
As usual, I have also been pushing City staff to take measures to make sure residents and visitors alike can navigate the area safely and in a reliable way. Make sure to make a plan to get around and allow for extra time.
City staff have added new measures this year to make sure traffic in surrounding areas stay moving:
- Staff will be monitoring cameras from the Traffic Operations Centre and making signal timing adjustments, with extra staff in on Saturday during the Grand Parade to support any additional signal timing changes. This will be supported by new cameras installed this year in Liberty Village and Exhibition Place so that staff have more eyes on the ground.
-
We'll have even more traffic control on the ground this year on between 8am and 8pm on August 1 to make sure that our neighbourhoods stay moving. Toronto Police Service Officers and Traffic Agents will be positioned at:
- Lake Shore Blvd and Colborne Lodge Dr
- The Queensway and Colborne Lodge Dr
- Lake Shore Blvd and Parkside Dr
- Lake Shore Blvd and Fort York Blvd
- Dufferin St and Liberty St
- Hanna Ave and Liberty St
- Strachan Ave and Liberty St
- Strachan Ave and Fleet St
- Fort York Blvd and Fleet St
- King St and Atlantic Ave
-
Please note: if these staff are not visible during the noted period, they may be briefly unavailable due to an operational break.
Road closures for the parade take effect on Saturday, August 1 at 12 a.m. and continue until Sunday, August 2 at 6 a.m., including:
- Lake Shore Boulevard West from Fort York Boulevard to Colborne Lodge Drive
- Lake Shore Boulevard West westbound between Bathurst Street and Fort York Boulevard is open to local traffic only
- Strachan Avenue southbound from Fleet Street
Illegally parked vehicles will be tagged and towed by Toronto Police Services. Get more information here.
I will also keep working with City staff and advocating for resources through the Liberty Village Traffic Action Plan, rolling out short-term measures, and sharing resident feedback with City staff in Transportation Services.
