Your Guide to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto

As we welcome the world to Toronto for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, my priority is that our downtown communities can get around their neighbourhoods and enjoy and benefit from this once-in-a-lifetime moment, before, during, and after the games. As the tournament begins I want to ensure you have the most up to date information and resources to be ready for the World Cup in our communities. On this page, I've compiled some key resources for you.

As we welcome the world to Toronto for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, my priority is that our downtown communities can get around their neighbourhoods and enjoy and benefit from this once-in-a-lifetime moment, before, during, and after the games.

I've worked with City staff to ensure we have neighbourhood-specific plans and consult with downtown residents to finalize these plans. Together, we've secured:

  • A dedicated Fort York and Liberty Village area FIFA local information web page: Toronto.ca/FYLV;
  • A Mobility Plan for getting around that includes local access only zones around the stadium and FIFA Fan Festival with passes distributed through property management;
  • A dedicated and enhanced 311 response for FIFA related issues, with priority for local areas near the stadium, FIFA Fan Festival, and Last Mile downtown areas;
  • A an allotment of tickets for local residents to the FIFA Fan Festival - with details to come shortly on how to access;
  • Local community celebrations and activations during the FIFA World Cup;
  • A dedicated point of contact for questions on local neighbourhood preparations and questions for the World Cup.

As the tournament begins I want to ensure you have the most up to date information and resources to be ready for the World Cup in our communities.

On this page, I've compiled some key resources for you. Use the links below to jump down to the information you need.

Getting Around: Road Closures, Transit, and Bike Share

The City of Toronto is prepared to keep people moving smoothly and safely. A coordinated team, including TTC, GO Transit, police and emergency service partners, will manage transportation and crowd movement in real time:

  • Using live monitoring of traffic, transit and crowd flow, the City will activate rapid responses to issues and actively communicate travel updates throughout the tournament.
  • Real-time information on transit services, road closures, and event impacts will be shared through City channels, TTC and Metrolinx updates and travel signage.
  • Walking and cycling are encouraged, with added supports in place such as bike parking, Toronto Bike Share staffed bike valets, and clearly marked walking routes, to make active travel easier and more convenient.
  • There is no general parking at event sites during the World Cup including no on‑site parking at Toronto Stadium or the Fan Festival. Accessible parking, for match ticket holders only, must be booked in advance.

Plan extra time for travel—public transit is the best way to get around. TTC and GO Transit will run more frequent service, especially on match days. Learn more about travelling on the TTC and GO Transit. The City of Toronto has created a dedicated website, including one for specifically the Liberty Village and Fort York neighbourhoods. The FIFA World Cup's official website is also a key resource.

Road Closures

There will be road closures and traffic restrictions near event areas including Exhibition Place, Liberty Village and Fort York to support pedestrian safety and event operations.

Local access only will be in place for Fort York for the duration of the tournament, and in Liberty Village on match days only. Passes for local access only will be distributed by your building’s property management, starting Monday, June 8.

Public transit, walking, and cycling are the fastest and most reliable options for getting around.

  • Planned and temporary road closures and restrictions will be in place on key streets such as Strachan Avenue, Dufferin Street, Fleet Street, parts of Lake Shore Boulevard, and within Liberty Village.
  • Street closures are for both automobiles, as well as bicycles. Cyclists must dismount and walk, a normal practice for all major event road closures where there are many pedestrians.
  • Portable, variable message signs, traffic agents and route diversions will support real-time traffic flow.

TTC

The TTC is increasing service on all match days and throughout the tournament. Service on subway lines 1 and 2 will be increased, alongside bus service on the 29 Dufferin and 929 Dufferin Express; and streetcar service on the 504 King, 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst. Signal priority will be enhanced for the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina streetcars and vehicles will have transit priority lanes on Dufferin and Bathurst.

To accommodate the increase in ridership, streetcars will be using an expanded transit hub on Fleet Street, just east of Strachan, and not dropping passengers at the Exhibition loop.

Keep up on all TTC service adjustments related to the FIFA World Cup.

GO Transit and Metrolinx

Metrolinx will be running 15 minute GO Train service on the Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines, as well as increased late-night service. Trains will continue to use the Exhibition GO station.

Metrolinx is your best source for up-to-date information.

Bike Share

Bike Share Toronto is introducing a convenient weekly pass during the tournament. They will also be operating a bike valet service at an expanded Bike Share station near the Fleet Street transit hub on match days. This should help ensure bikes and docks are still available for residents throughout the neighbourhood. Local residents are also welcome to use the valet service.

Info for Liberty Village and Fort York Residents

I've worked hard to make sure that Liberty Village and Fort York had neighbourhood-specific preparations. My priority is that our downtown communities can enjoy and benefit from this once-in-a-lifetime moment, before, during, and after the games.

At my request, the City has built this dedicated website to share information with Liberty Village and Fort York residents. It is a great place to start with questions or concerns.

Have more questions? See below.

I live in Liberty Village/Fort York. How do I get around my neighbourhood during the games?

Start by reviewing the City’s dedicated website

  • Local access are being distributed to local buildings via property management.
  • Local access will be in place for Fort York for the duration of the tournament, and in Liberty Village on match days only.
  • Find more on the mobility plan for the World Cup
  • Staff continue to iterate upon my Liberty Village Traffic Action Plan

I’m a resident of Fort York with concerns about the closure of Fort York and Garrison Crossing

I know the importance of the Fort York Ground, Garrison Common, and Garrison Crossing as treasured public and green spaces and gateways to our downtown neighbourhoods, particularly to residents of Fort York.

I have clearly opposed the full closure beginning in early May.  I advocated to the City’s FIFA Secretariat to explore all possible options, including pushing to reduce the scope and duration of the closure in order to maintain access to this valued space, to stage construction, and most importantly,  provide adequate notice to our community. I am disappointed that this did not occur, and convened a meeting on April 30 (more above) for the FIFA Secretariat to share updates with our community. I will continue to work with staff and residents on the best possible implementation.

I want to attend FIFA Fan Festival at Fort York. What do I need to know?

I have worked with the Mayor to ensure that tickets to Fan Fest are free and accessible to all. There will be a dedicated allotment of tickets to residents of Fort York and Liberty Village in particular, who will be welcoming the World Cup to their front doors. We will keep residents updated on processes to obtain tickets.

How do I host an event?

If you’re a local business or resident trying to capture the excitement of the Games, please refer to the Community Activation Toolkit.

What consultation has been done?

Thanks to all who have been participating in my office’s series of community conversations targeted at residents of Liberty Village and Fort York, directly impacted by the Games. These meetings took place:
